pride and prejudice
Jan. 8th, 2010 04:59 pmIt rains and rains and then rains some more. It is lovely in some respects but I do feel bad for the county workers who were doing surveying out on the road today.
I took Miss Biscuit for her check up. Healthy and normal. In fact she decided that today in the exam room; she would roll over. Twice. "Ta-da. Now stop hassling me. I have my fists to chew on." She has been semi-mobile in her own way for awhile but didn't show much interest in the rolling over area of things. She figured out that she can scoot herself a bit by pushing with her feet. She is teething like a mo-fo and the Dr seemed happy with how Miss Biscuit is growing and doing her thing. But lord did we do a lot of waiting today. I get there ten minutes before the appointment like they say and then I don't even get into the exam room for at least half an hour. (the real hell is for parents with toddler children because the toys have been removed because of the flu season) THEN? after the initial weighing/measuring thrills, it is another half hour weight in the exam room. I was cool and calm but Shortcakes wasn't impressed. While sitting in the waiting room I wanted to smack a parent with his own iphone. I am guessing that Mr. Fancy-pants (as he shall now be known because he acted like he was the most important person in important land. Whatever pal, just because your shoes are Italian doesn't mean shit.) was put out that he had to take his kid to the doctor. His daughter was between 10-12 and obviously had a cold. She should have been sitting in the sick person's section of the waiting area but she kept wandering around. Touching things. Hack hack cough cough snort snort touch touch touch. OMG kid. PURELL YOURSELF. STOP WANDERING AROUND AND TOUCHING SHIT. Her Father Mr. Fancy-pants kept wandering around too and talking loudly on his iphone doing very important things. At one point he out-right disappeared while his daughter was doing her best to spread her germs around the waiting area. She sat around being a mouth-breather near young babies and then hacked and coughed (without covering her mouth) and then got up some more to touch things and give everyone smallpox or something. I am sympathetic to the parents of young children because it takes a lot of work to wrangle someone small. Small people don't have the impulse control yet. And if your child doesn't have the best impulse control by the time they are twelve (which isn't uncommon and also some kids have ADD and what not) you should at least feign the effort of trying to keep your kid from spreading germs about. There were toddlers in the waiting area who were better behaved than the toucher. I hope Mr. Fancypants ends up with vomit on his iphone.
Anyhow after that adventure, I came home to a quiet house and a sleeping Senor Onion. (points to Mr. Jenner) I also had a new pair of shoes arrive. I am not sure about them. They are pretty but just a wee bit tight and I wonder if it is worth taking the time to stretch them out or if I should just send them back and get a different size. The only real bother is that the color I really really like isn't available in the next size up. I wonder if the box is a wee bit short. First world problems and all.
And more rain...
I think I may cook up some mushrooms and orzo for dinner. I just need to peruse the vegetable situation to round out the side dishes.
