ever have those days?
Sep. 1st, 2011 10:43 pmThis morning my son woke up (not too long after I got up with his sister)clutching his "friends" (stuffed animals) and announced, "I am feeling fragile." He then hid under his blanket for awhile on the sofa. He wasn't sick or anything but well.. feeling fragile. We all have those days. We worked around it. He was quite a cuddle bug and a terrific help at the grocery store. He helped quite a bit around the house and so on. He would have moments of feeling extra sensitive and I did my best to help him. When we went to take the trash can in he noticed that it was different. (the city dropped off new bins and took away the ancient ones) He was heart-broken (because let's face it -change is a bitch) and announced that he wanted the old bin back and he wanted to be thrown away too. I took him inside and we had a chat about how difficult it is when things change and it is out of our control. A little sympathy and a slice of cake is really what most people need now and then. I think what helped us both today was the fact that he is at an age where he can communicate a lot of these feelings and I took a page from Mr. Rogers about remembering what it was like when you are small and you just need someone to listen. So high fives to Mr. Rogers for guiding me along.
