I can enjoy the fancy-pants french toast as much as the next person. (In particular, there was a bananas foster french toast that the 5 Spot had on their menu for awhile that I whispered sweet nothings to.) But there's just something wonderful about the simplicity and familiarity of that which you mention, above. Pure comfort food.
