what really matters
Seeing the pictures from the G20 Summit brings back fond memories of the WTO riots I worked through once upon a time. And really my complaints don't change. Just because you are protesting doesn't mean you should sacrifice fashion. You don't have to show up to your little event wearing Dior or Givenchy but for the love of Carmel Snow, would it kill these people to add a little color or oomph to what they wear. Okay I get that black is a safe color and easy to wear. I fall into that trap all of the time. But the green? Especially that camo green needs to go. Many shades of green are hard to wear and that sort of army/anarchist green does no one any favors. Most people look unwell. Like they just got over the flu and they still haven't quite regained their health. Yes it is important to dress for the elements if you are going to be outside all day but you don't have to look like you are dressing for your shift at Starbucks. Here is your big chance to wear some color. I suppose they all wear something dreary so that they look a like and it takes longer for the police to figure out who did what. Maybe these people should organize and find a collective set of colors that look good on most people. Really it is like the same thing a lot of brides do to their bridesmaids. "here everyone dress a like in poorly fitted clothes and wear a stupid head-piece/hat." And for these protesters there isn't even the promise of free cake and Spanish sparkling wine at the end of the day for all their trouble.
Couldn't these people take a page from Ukraine and their orange revolution? Orange isn't always a favorite color but it is fun. And shouldn't revolution and up-rising be fun???
