The point being here is, make sure they feel like they can get out- assuming they tell you what you want to hear. ahahha turn the tables on 'em. "so, we're in a room, and I'm blocking your door. I'm assuming I got a nice raise, yes?" and then twitch with shifty eyes and mumble to yourself. Their answer is almost always "why, yes! it seems we just found another... seven percent for you above the 2 percent we were going to give! Can I leave now? safely?" ahahha
I never like reviews though. It's not that I don't work hard, but I've realized that direct supervision either isn't aware of what I do unless they're literally working with me (and therefore, not giving me the fair benefit at review time, assuming I'm doing less until proven otherwise) or that they misunderstand me and choose the lower end of the reward. A few times I've been praised and fairly compensated, and it annoys me that for that, I was doing the same things as I was for the lower pay that the ignorant fools gave me previously.
