quite

Tomatoes are beginning to ripen and I have pickling cukes coming on in the garden. I check everyday on the garden so the progress isn't always so obvious. But still it is exciting. I also picked tons and tons of blackberries again. I am not sure if I want to preserve them in some fashion or just make a pie. I will decide tomorrow.

I baked cinnamon rolls and butterscotch pecan rolls. I think the former were better. The latter has inspired me to try and make come up with a different glaze/topping recipe. The dough itself is fantastic. I will have a think on this. I also made bread with the kids. (keeps them out of the bars)

Right now I am reading Losing Mum and Pup by Christopher Buckley. It is about the year in which his parents both died. It has very very funny/macabre moments and also very tender moments. What kind of cracks me up is how his Father is always casually speaking Spanish to everyone or how he finds ways for non-Catholics to end up in heaven. Christopher Buckley's Mother was something else. A kind of a sociopath with her own version of the truth but a very charming one at that.

Tomorrow there is grocery shopping, potential baking projects and the joy that is Friday. Now to bed.

I've been meaning to order that book; thanks for the prompt.

In my internement, I've been reading Allegra Goodman's works, the latest entitled The Cookbook Collector. Do you know her? I think you'd like her writing.

Heard that Jonathan Franzen has completed another epic social novel, too.

I have heard of her but I haven't read that. Need any other book suggestions? I am on an espionage kick as of late, so I am readin Alan Furst.

The joy that is friday is good stuff. It's the day before Le Weekend (when you get to have your Le Weekend cake.) I just love the french so much for having such a superior name for poundcake, and knowing just how to eat it, too!
