It is a romantic place but you have to wade through the crass tourist aspect
I was referring to your description of Venice as not being overly romantic, not the city itself. All too often people will talk up a city they love in such a way as to make Heaven seem like Lubbock, TX in comparison, so I always appreciate less starry-eyed accounts.
Is the tourist aspect beginning to dominate the landscape there? That's disappointing, but I suppose as more and more places rely on tourism to fuel the local economy it becomes inevitable.
