Yesterday morning with Senor Onion's help I made strawberry/raspberry sorbet. Mr. Jenner is more of a fan of those sorts of frozen desserts and I am a fairly nice wife. My heart though, is lost to ice cream. I was reading one of my favorite essays on ice cream by Anne Fadiman. Now I am in the mood to make some. I need to look in the cupboards and see what flavor needs to be made. We have vanilla and a couple of ice creams I made not too long ago. But I still love the entire process of making the stuff. From steeping cream to watching as the mix slowly becomes that frozen delight.
Maybe I will make a nice dark chocolate or something. Something simple but pleasing. Next week I will make peach ice cream. I should invite people to my house to eat ice cream or something. It would almost be charity if people helped me out in that respect. "please eat this so I can make more, I have a pathological problem..."
It is supposed to cool down tomorrow. I am more excited than is probably healthy. There are some clouds in the sky. COME ON COOL WEATHER!
Right now I am reading One Pair of Feet by Monica Dickens. It is about her experiences learning to be a nurse during WWII. It was amazing how one learned to be a nurse then. They started one off doing the scrubby work/chores and over time they taught the girls how to do the more medically-inclined stuff. Some of it is very funny (like her own doubts and screw-ups.) and some of it is rather sad and tragic. (as it did take place during the war.)
As it is still warm out, I think there will be hot dogs, grilled vegetables and of course plenty of ice cream and sorbet.
