startling, isn't it?
Nov. 15th, 2002 11:12 amI am engaged in a conversation via email with a friend regarding the subject of time and its relation to physics.
A subject I am not knowledgable about, but I am deeply intrigued.
The conversation brings to mind a particular quote:
Man's mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions.
-Oliver Wendell Holmes
When I am learning something new, and it begins to change my perception, I often feel as if I am swimming with my eyes closed and I am slowly opening them as I go along and I begin to see more and more and everything becomes much more clear and I am subjected to new sensations.
A better analogy would be that I feel as if my mind is much like a flower and it blooms and I can feel the opening of this flower (Like a dahlia, as the bud opens, a brillance of color is exposed to the light and it reaches for the light.)
I think that is true learning. Not memorization of an assortment of facts, but when your environment changes when finding or seeing something new....
On a shallow note, I came home late last night and I knocked on my brother's door and he said, "come in and turn on the light" I came in, turned on the light and I began to snort a bit with laughter.
um..
My brother attempted to cut his own hair. Now he did this once when he was about eight years old and we had hoped he learned his lesson.
Well here we are ten years later and he is repeating the mistake.
I attempted to fix the bulk of it last night.
Today I am finishing up the rest.
He has a rather short military-style haircut. I reminded him that hair does grow out, and he should wear a hat for awhile.
It was quite difficult not giggling while I fixed things.
Okay to be honest, He now has a gay haircut and I told him he shouldn't walk on broadway for a week or so.
*cracks up* oh man it was too fucking funny when I first saw his hair. I should have taken pictures.
Off to commit errands and maybe a felony.
