Jan. 19th, 2004 03:17 pmToday is the day when certain people feel guilty because they don't know anyone of a different race other then that guy who works at the 7-11 and yet go on and on about racial equality.
Yeah...
Today I am washing clothes and my hair. In the midst of all of that I shall read the paper and a book.
I have so much to talk about but first I need a sandwich.

I have so much to talk about but first I need a sandwich.
I have the second load of laundry on, I just made a lasagna, and I took out the garbage I am riding on some sort of high and I am not going to question it one damn bit.
Well I have my trusty glass of orange juice and I have much to blather on about.
First many cited a feature in The Stranger which encouraged drinking to get through the winter doldrums. I read it awhile ago and much of it is handy advice. But one can't always drink at work. It is one of those things where the customers have to be drunker then the customer service wenches. Silly idea I know.
Thank you for the advice.
Last night I had *goes to the fridge to find the bottle* Fume Blanc by Covey Run Winery (they are Washington based) It was nice and fruity without being sickenly sweet. It reminds me (I am taking a small taste to jog my memory) slightly of pears and melons. It isn't as good as the 2000 Fume Blanc I read about which was a gold medal winner. Still I like it and it helped out the fish which was disappointing because the damn thing had hardly any flavor. Even with the lemons, garlic and dill. The fish wasn't exciting.
Tonight I will be having some Italian red wine. I know I know
cogshiftingman may question that since he is fairly keen upon French wines. I just thought that this would go well with lasagna and I want something that will make me feel all warm and cozy. Usually a simple Italian red will do the trick.
To go with the pasta dish I am going to make a salad that has bacon because you can never have too much bacon folks.
A nice basic Italian recipe. You can take basil leaves (when they are in season) or bibb/butter lettuce (you want a fairly mild green) and you tear that up into bite-sized pieces (that is something I wish more restaurants would do instead of giving you a large leaf) Make sure that you wash and dry the leaves completely otherwise the dressing will not adhere to the leaves. In a pan you fry up fairly large sized pieces of bacon. You will want it to be fairly crisp. You will remove the bacon fat and then add a bit of olive oil (I know it sound like over-kill but stick with me) and a vinegar. Please do not get extra fancy with the vinegar. Stir the vinaigrette around with the bacon. Then pour the bacon and dressing over the lettuce. You will then add a cup of thinly sliced mushrooms. You will want to toss the salad thoroughly so that the leaves are coated. Ta-da salad.

Last night we watched the film l'auberge espagnol. Andrew and I had wanted to see it when it came to the Seattle International Film Festival but gosh-darn we had to go to England. It is alright to give me sympathy.
So thankfully it came out on dvd. It is a European film following this young French man who is studying in Spain for a year and his experiences living with a number of other Europeans in a cramped Apartment. The film is in a number of different languages and it is a fairly loose film. I wouldn't call this a coming-of-age film. The main character is pretty much an adult, but he is learning along with his other roommates how to be an adult and to follow his own path. The movie is quite funny, a bit sad and very sexy. A locale like Barcelona doesn't hurt either.
Next we will watch Big Night There is a dish in that film I have not had the nerve to make. It is fairly laborious and when I do have the nerve everyone I know is invited to come over and try it out.
...
I finished the book about William Blake's wife Catherine. It wasn't a bad book but it just felt disappointing. It felt flat like champagne that has been left out after a party. You were hoping for something grand and it isn't awful but it wasn't wonderful..
I am now reading a book called, Mutants: On Genetic Variety and the Human Body
It is a fairly disturbing book (atleast the pictures and illustrations are) about genetics and how random some of it turns out to be and the so-called mutations that turn up are more common then we realize and they aren't exactly mutations but variants. It discusses the history of understanding and what it may mean for the future. It shows how we may have cracked the human genome but we don't entirely understand what we have on our hands. It is much like finding some new language but we don't have a rosetta stone. Fun stuff so far.
...
Well then we have discussed some food, some movies and a book or two. That should keep people busy for awhile.
I am tempted to make a chocolate mousse this week.
Mmmm chocolate.
Now to fold socks.
