Yesterday evening Mr. Jenner and I went to a very nice cocktail party. I felt a bit like a ten year old at these things because it was a real live grown up party. Couples, drinks, mingling and a million dollar view of Seattle. The Apartment made me think of something from the fifties. Crown molding, tasteful furniture and civilized people.
I enjoyed myself a ton. I met some new people, talked about how long it takes to build houses, fun places to go on holiday, pets, traffic, and visa issues with immigration.
Oh and of course we discussed politics, families and marriage.
So I suppose this is what grown ups do.
It is amusing.

Yesterday I made blackbottom cupcakes but I am not entirely sure if I am pleased with the recipe. I may have to think about it some more. They do taste fairly good. Anything with chocolate is going to taste good.

Sometimes I like to cook and goodness I have taken pictures of some of the things I have made as of late.
I also photographed a pigeon who was nesting in our hallway until some awful person got rid of the egg and the poor little pigeon left.
Here take a look.

Mr. Jenner and I are off to the Seattle International Film Festival to see an Australian film with a Welsh actor that I like.
Danny Deckchair.
Hilarity will ensue. I promise.

What we do

I tremendously enjoyed "Danny Deckchair". Mr. Jenner equally loved it.
It is a very sweet smart movie and incredibly romantic. I forgot how attractive Rhys Ifans looks when he cuts off his scraggly beard. For those who are not immediately familiar with him, he played the goofy roommate in "Nottinghill". The Welshman!
I found that one of the more powerful elements of the film had to be his eyes. You could see so much vulnerability, desperation, and ease shine through in many moments.
The film was also a freaking scream in a way that Australians perfectly capture. Another reason to see the film is that the love interest is played by Miranda Otto who played Eowyn The ass-kicking babe in Lord of the Rings. What is not to like?

After that we went to The 5 Spot for the last night of the Nashville menu. We ate Fried Green tomatoes. I keep wanting to truly love them with all of my soul but they put too much damn pepper for my liking in the drippings. I always say that it is important to keep things like that to a minimum so each person can add as much as they like. They are fairly crispy so I do keep trying them for that alone.
For dinner I had wanted to eat the shrimp and grits but they were out so I had the special. catfish cakes with cheese grits. Mr. Jenner took my suggestion and had the chicken'n'dumplings. I rather liked the fish cakes but I do believe I was more enamoured of the grits. They weren't the best cheese grits I have ever had. That pleasure goes to an older lady from Texas who attended the Methodist Church my Mother played the organ for. This woman knew how to make grits!
These were pleasant though. Part of the reason I ordered the dish had to do with the fact that Mr. Jenner has never tried grits before in his life and well we both felt it was high time he tried them.
Now I think Mr. Jenner acquired the superior meal. The gravy was so buttery and delicious it would make a person want to drape it over the person of their liking and lick it off. Yes it was that good. The chicken was moist and falling off the bone and the dumplings perfectly matched the entire meal. Potatolicious.

We had no room for dessert. Maybe in a bit after digesting we will have some left-over apple pie or cupcakes.
YUM.
