Today I went and bought some chap stick because lo and behold I had run out and frankly there is nothing worse then dry icky lips and feeling desperate. So off I went to the drug store and I stopped at the local Half-price book store (because despite my discount I can sometimes find some kick-ass stuff) and found a copy of a book by one of my favorite authors (Dodie Smith) and had to have the book. It is out of print and here I found a hard-back third edition of "The New Moon with the Old". I acquired it for a dirt-cheap price and now I am one happy clam. I began reading it and it felt like coming home. There are certain books I reread over and over again because I know the characters so well and they are so dear to me; almost like family in a way. Whenever I reread "I Capture the Castle" I feel comforted thinking of Topaz or Stephen or any number of characters.
I am on a mission to collect all of Dodie Smith's works. Most of her work is out of print and whenever I run across something I immediately snatch it up.
Ah....

When coming home on the bus today I got into a loud argument with an absolute bigot. He was going off about how he can't stand to live in Bellevue/Redmond anymore because of all of the immigrants. He said he was moving to shoreline because of that. He was saying they had no sense of tradition and ruin everything. I was so angry listening to him. Half of the people on that bus were first generation immigrants and he kept going on at length saying they took all the money from hard-working Americans. I decided enough was enough. I went up to him and said, "Your family were immigrants be careful what you say." He responded, "oh no they weren't." I quickly retorted, "Oh, Are you Native American?" He said, "nope." I then said, "Then you have no business saying such awful things. You probably offended half of the people on this bus you jerk!" Right then and there the bus came to my stop so I got off. I have to laugh. There are just as many immigrants (specifically from South East Asia) in Shoreline if not more. What a surprise he will have.
I am so damn sick and tired of these attitudes. Not one damn person in this country has a right to say atrocious things about immigrants. Everyone excepting Native Americans came here from somewhere else. Most were poor. Most weren't exactly educated and thankfully our country gave them a chance. We should give people the same chance that was given to our ancestors. We have plenty of room and can always use another ethnic cuisine. Besides statistics show these people tend to be some of the hardest working people around.
