gfrancie: (bright young things)
Well.... Mr. Jenner and I have come home. We left Berrypark at six o'clock in the morning. Oh the pain. It was dark, very windy and we were not terribly awake. We had our tea and toast, said our goodbyes and took off. for the A39. I noticed a sheep standing on the side of the road looking like...well looking as a sheep often does; a little confused and disoriented. Mr. Jenner said, "oh sheep are always doing that. Once it is light out I am sure he will find his way back." I kept worrying about someone accidentally hitting the animal most of the way to Heathrow.
His parents suggested leaving so early because they said there would probably be a lot of traffic near Reading and if we were possibly going to make it by twelve we had to leave very early.
We arrived at Heathrow at ten freaking thirty in the morning after dropping off the rental car.
This moment really was brought to a rather personal note because I am reading a Bill Bryson book about England ("Notes from a Small Island") and he talks about how English people have a different sense of space and time and they always say you need to leave three weeks ago to make it from Surrey to Cornwall by tomorrow afternoon. They take great delight in bemoaning any attempt at using transportation.

I should mention a few minor details. Mr. Jenner was driving about ninety miles an hour the entire time. I am not making this up. I looked and he was driving like a bat out of hell. At one point he was driving 104 miles an hour. Another detail should be mentioned. The national speed limit is 60. GO Speed Racer GO!

We arrived so early we couldn't even check in.
So that was that. Our flight was uneventful, some okay food, some interesting films and we even arrived early. It was a bright clear day so one could see most of Western Washington. I pointed out Port Townsend, Whidbey Island, the Key Peninsula, Vashon Island and other points of interest. We could even sorta see where our house is.

Oh the joy!

Now I am doing nine hundred loads of laundry, I used one of my Lush bath bombs and I am going through all the lovely gifts people gave us. I realized that our two weeks in England was really a two week long engagement party. Even the lovely Mrs. Jenner said she had never entertained like that before.

I will post more later. We are waiting for our Chinese food to be delivered and I have been awake for about twenty four hours so I am feeling a little crazy. CRAZY!

Oh oh oh.... a dear friend gave me a super H&M evening clutch and decorated hairpins for my birthday. I must thank her.

Okay now to calm down. *takes a deep breath*
