I have some left-over roast beef that I had cooked a few days ago. (we had french dip sandwiches) I thought I ought to do something with the beef. Easily one could just make sandwiches but I have a knack for coming up with a reason to make something else. I am making a beef pot pie from scratch and I found a dandy recipe through
America's Test Kitchen since I don't have any drippings to make a proper roux or gravy for the pie. This is so delicious. I saw them make it yesterday on their show. It was what inspired me to use the roast beef for other than sandwiches.
Here is the recipe for the gravy. Right now mine is simmering and I took a small taste to make sure it was turning out as it should and it was so rich and flavorful. I am going to keep this one on hand.
I will post a final recipe of everything else once I am finished. I hope to also take a picture tonight.
Our weather continues to be schizophrenic. One day it is bright and beautiful and then the next it will be dark, gloomy and raining. It is a nice balance and the plants seem to thrive well. The spinach plants have gotten out of control so I need to attend to that. I think I may transplant my rose near the cosmos so that the two beds might look a bit tidier. I can also then transplant the pumpkins elsewhere. I need to take a closer look at my tomato plant and see if any fruit will happen. *hopes and prays*
I suppose I ought to attend to the laundry.
My Mother has taken to making soap again so she is experimenting with new things. She has given me some really lovely stuff that is moisture-happy as I like to say. She also gave me a lotion bar that has shea butter. It is unscented but there is a faint hint of sweetness to it that I like. I used some on my hands and I am rather pleased with the results. There is no residue after a few minutes yet your skin feels soft and warm all day. I will try out the soap later today and see how my skin reacts to that. I think this might turn into a business for her. I am thinking about what her gimmick should be. All good advertising and companies create a great mythology about products. I am thinking old world european cottage industry. She used to make this terrific soap that I was addicted to. It was pumpkin spice and it was smelled a bit like Autumn and also Christmas.
