The Void Quarterly has some new stuff. Check the updates and see the story I helped right. It is called Bear Hug. I am especially proud of helping with that piece because we worked on it while at work. That is skill my friend. That is skill.

Speaking of skill I broke into our house today. (I have no idea where my key went) I am James Bond with ovaries. Better yet I am Mrs. Peel

But the rest of the day? Bleh. It was another irritating day of not getting things done on time and feeling like I am making it up as I go along.

Time for tea.

Oh yeah...people suck.
There is a new girl at work. She seems nice enough in her own fashion. (She has blown-out hair, a tan and is very Seventeen Magazine looking) I was sitting with a co-worker and I made some mention of some gay person I know. When I mentioned that this friend was gay (it made sense in reference to the comment) she said and I quote, "Gay people can be so nice. It is amazing. Aren't they the best? I was at a concert one time and one said he liked my shirt. I thought that was so sweet." There was a moment of silence. She didn't notice it of course but I looked over at my friend Tom and he raised his eyebrow. I said in a tone of voice that indicated such broad sarcasm that even a three year old could pick up on it, "yeah they are almost like regular people." I don't think she caught that because at that moment she said, "Oooooh look Wayne Brady is in town."
I think it is time to educate this girl a bit. Especially if she is going to be working where we do. The fact is we have a number of people on the staff that are gay and she damn well better understand that they are human beings who are completely unique in every way. Like every other person on this planet.

I suppose I should be happy that she thinks "they can be so nice." but it irritates me to no end when people say things like that. As if it is a genuine surprise. "It is amazing Edna, Those gays won't bite you or steal your car. One even did my hair. I didn't tip him of course because he will just spend it on his perverse lifestyle."

It is right up there with telling a black person that they speak so well or telling a woman she is really good at doing math.

Oh I met the writer Anne McCaffrey today. She is a bit of a bitch.

List ten things in a day that give you a moment of joy...then tag five of your friends

1. Lounging on the sofa with a cup of tea and a good book or magazine. (preferably 'Vanity Fair')
2. a hot bath and light reading material. (preferably 'Vanity Fair' or The New Yorker)
3. the bus-driver who tells the riders that if they don't pay the bus fare they will be acquiring bad karma.
4. little rabbits who hop up onto dining table chairs and hide so well.
5. Lying next to Mr. Jenner listening to Radio 4.
6. Receiving a letter or package in the post. It always feels a bit like Christmas no matter what.
7. the third luscious bite of some delicious food. There is still plenty left. Especially fois gras or a ripe nectarine.
8. Cooking. It is one of the few times I feel genuinely confident in myself. Afterward I never am. But when I am in the moment and I am putting together something I am content.
9. sex (though I get more than a moment of joy out of that thank you)
10. Mr. Jenner giving me a big hug and kiss when he comes home from work.

And now I doth tag thee:

As for not-so-everyday moments of joy I offer you this:

-After a long flight when we come in for the landing. I am wildly frightened and excited by the bumps on the runway and the speed.
-When you wake up and realize it has snowed.
-Champagne
-swimming in cold bodies of water. I love that.
-Watching a plant grow.
