Today is kind of a pumpkin themed day.
I haven't carved one in a long time but I felt the urge to do so. I was feeling a trifle daring and did a silhouette of a cat arching its back. I did it free-handed and I am rather proud of myself. No stencil! I have also emailed La Zucca in Venice and I have asked them the recipe for the pumpkin flan that I had. If they respond I will share the recipe here. I took some left-over pumpkin flesh and cooked it and made it into a quick puree. I am thinking about making ravioli filled with pumpkin. Or something else. Nothing is definite.

We bought candy for any trick-or-treaters that wander by. Being that we don't want to be labeled as the sucky people on the block we are handing out Nerds, Sweet-tarts, (also known in America as Smarties) and Kit-kat bars. (I admit I miss the old packaging for kit-kat bars) Only bastards hand out sugar daddies, necco wafers and raisins. Also if there is any candy we left it is stuff we like. Clever eh.
If you have kids and live in seattle stop by and we will give grown-ups candy too. But you must bring a child with you who is wearing a cute costume.

You Passed the US Citizenship Test

Congratulations - you got 10 out of 10 correct!

I get positively hot with delight when discussing Revolutionary history. I have an equal crush on Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. (even if the latter was obnoxious and disliked) There is nothing more entertaining then discussing Cesar Rodney or the fact that Ben Franklin was at odds with his natural son who supported the King.

I almost wish I could take a citizenship test just to show off my useless knowledge.

I ran across a few interesting books as of late.

Fairy Island made me think of some particular people in Pasadena. The pictures are really amazing and it recalls building doll-houses but in a more interesting fashion.

Curries and Bugles. Lovely book about Indian cuisine from an Anglo perspective. The author grew up in British Raj and embraced all the food of the region. So it goes back and forth between the English influence and the native influence.

Roanoke A proper mystery that the author attempts to solve. This is one of those historically vague moments that are fun to discuss. Especially when you consider some of the theories.

I am doing my best to keep my wish list to a minimum. But dammit there are so many terrific things out there.

Now to go to get some rest and think cheerful thoughts of early morning doctor appointments.
Upside in all of this is I did not faint at all today. I felt incredibly blech at moments but other than that I did alright. I even made chicken pie for Mr. Jenner, cleared out the fridge, built a good fire, cleaned a rabbit's cage, answered my email, carved a pumpkin and took care of three loads of laundry. (I even folded and put everything away) For someone who is supposedly sick I don't do a very good impression do I?
