I was feeling inspired today.
We went to Uwajimaya this morning. It was nice and quiet and calm. I picked up some seafood, some produce and bits and pieces. The salmon was on sale and it seemed like a good idea to have fish. Usually I just roast/grill salmon and call it a day. But that seemed a bit dull. Then I started thinking about mayonnaise and mousse and other delightful Summer food.
I made a beautiful creamy mayonnaise. (Thank you Julia Child as always for your assistance) Then I poached the salmon and let that cool. I made a salmon mousse (molded and everything) and then I made some herbed sauteed potatoes. I like to think of the pairing as "fish and chips redux". The mousse was garnished with tomato, cucumber and lemons. There were also toast points and fresh carrots. (riesling to wash it down) It was mighty fine if I do say so myself. I will have to upload a picture of the mousse. It was quite pretty.
For dessert we had almond cake.

My culinary projects for the week include making paella and creme caramel.
