On slashfood they talk about a Japanese snacking food. It is certainly something else.

Last night I had the worst insomnia. It was coupled with restless legs and awful humidity. Mummy is very very very tired and just ever so slightly grumpy. Don't mess with her. I finally fell asleep around 3:30. I was woken up at 4 by Senor Onion. Mr. Jenner spent half the night up and down and being harrassed by a mosquito and the humidity.
Dammit. I demand better sleep tonight. You hear me world?????? DEMAND. Because someone might end up with a limp.

Despite exhaustion: accomplishments.

Last night we watched this light and amusing movie called, The Missionary. It starred Michael Palin and Maggie Smith. I adore Maggie Smith. I want to be her when I grow up. I do a pretty good impression of her in the role of Miss Jean Brodie. (If I have had a few drinks I will show the impression) Anyway, back to the movie. It would occasionally veer into dark comedy territory and then rear back and would do whimsical English eccentricities and all that good stuff. I kept thinking in some ways this movie was made for cogshiftingman what with the occasional but well-lit shots of cleavage and breasts. (that and the overly giddy girls begging for sex) The ending sort of comes out of left-field but still lovely.

Today I made gelato di riso. (essentially rice pudding gelato) The effort was well worth it. That ought to keep me distracted for a few days. For dinner I made a dish that comes from the Susan Loomis book, On Rue Tatin. It is endive wrapped in ham and covered with a bechamel sauce and gruyere cheese. You bake that in the oven and then dive in. Mr. Jenner wasn't totally wowed by the endive, but he gave it his best effort. I liked making the dish because it was so easy to put together. I think it would be more appropriate in the Fall or Winter.

Tomorrow will probably be home-made pasta and whatever else looks appealing in the fridge.
