As I have a small child I read a lot of children's books. (he isn't so much a fan of Wodehouse or Thackeray) One book that Senor Onion owns is Go Dog Go. It is a fairly well-known classic by P.D. Eastman. I realized when reading it to Senor Onion, that I never read it as a small child. I had (and loved) a copy of Big Dog Little Dog, but I never got to the former.
The book kind of tripped me out a bit. There isn't a linear plot and I realized that it was like a Fellini film.
Alright. So people in my family have a habit of saying various things are like Fellini films but stick with me on this one.
There is a whole constant thing with dogs in cars speeding and it kind of made me think or Roma in the scenes with the automobiles and the teaming motorcycles. There is a page early in the book where it describes one dog going into a maze and three red dogs coming out. The dog going in is quite cheerful and naive looking and the red dogs coming out looks as if they have encountered Death and they have been told the date of their demise. Then the book will venture into random acts and scenes with the dogs. Again a bit like Roma and some like Nights of Cabiria. I really kept expecting some bit involving a priest that would be the commentary on The Church and then maybe a few rough-looking prostitutes sprinkled in the background to complete the look. The party at the end of the book was very much La Dolce Vita. Where was Anita Ekberg dancing in the fountain when we needed her. Go Dog Go has one constant vignette involving a girl and boy dog who keep encountering each other and she asks his opinion of her hat and he doesn't think too much of her hats until the very end. I somehow picture this being cast with Marcello Mastroianni and Fellini's wife Giulietta Masina. Though maybe the female dog could be played by some other European actress. Like Catherine Deneuve.
Great I am casting a cinematic version of Go Dog Go.
I need to get out more.

You should hear my theory about Where the Wild Things Are being an allegory for a gay person's coming of age, life in the clubs and finally the realization that one longs for the quiet life, where people love him genuinely and the Mother would be accepting of her son in the end.

I could come up with all kinds of ideas.
