Today there was dim sum with the family and now the in laws are flying home tonight. Mind you they are flying home to the remains of a storm that has hit the U.K. There wasn't a call or email from their youngest son; so that is a good sign that the roof hasn't disappeared or that the chickens are in the next county.
I finally watched Darjeeling Limited which I enjoyed. The song they play at the end was a nice surprise. It was a song I learned when I was taking French, so it kind of took me back to being fourteen. It is a bit of a hokey song but still fun to hear.
I have realized that I have gotten through a significant portion of my book pile. Obviously this is a sign that I need more books. *makes a sign to the book Gods that she is worthy of more books* I recently got a copy of Beard on Bread. I remember my Mother's copy from when I was growing up and now I can get down to the business of baking bread. He has a recipe for saffron bread that looks interesting.
As for other cooking blather I haven't made a pie in a week or so. I ought to do that. But first we need to finish the cake we have. I tried to get these English people to eat a lot of it. I mean come on.. "cake or death". Maybe I should have emphasized the death part more so that the cake part would be more appealing.
The problem with "cake or death" is that the English can't enjoy themselves too much (this is why they aren't Catholic anymore) and so it is always, "oh just a little sliver."
Catholics tend to do ostentatious more. (I mean look at our churches and what the priests wear? Vegas Floor show anyone?) We also eat big and bad. Carnivale anyone? From Feast Days to Advent and everything in between, how can we keep God in business if we aren't eating a nice big slice of cake? And maybe some wine. Lots of wine and oh hey there is a K of C potluck with lasagna. Let's have some of that shall we? Even a pope made coffee cool with the church because it was tasty and he wanted more!!!
I rest my case.
