I got a call the other day from the insurance company of the car/people with whom we got into an accident in February. They wanted to cover a few formalities. (had I needed further visits to the doctor and so on) They then said, "oh and we want to offer you a settlement of 500 bucks and we could tidy up and close this thing."
They sent a contract a day or so later in the mail.
On one hand, "hey free money." On the other hand it would mean that should any chronic health problems that crop up as a result of the accident -they don't have to pay for jack. It is a cheap buy-off if you ask me. I came away from the accident with some minor whiplash and a bruised thumb. Super lucky I tell myself. A lot. I am always a little distrustful of such institutions.
I am inclined toward taking it. Things are okay with me, I don't have to think about any further paper work and ponies for me!
Tempting to say, "For 1500 bucks I will tell people that you guys are hot in bed."

ETA: I do have health insurance. The 500 bucks is in addition to the doctor's bills they paid. I only needed one or two visits to the doctor and a massage.

ETA again: How exactly do I approach them and say, I think I deserve more money. This seems like an awfully low offer. I don't like to come across as a bastard and I know I am dealing with bastard-people. But I want to use my charm to get what I want.

I am struck with the early feelers of another crafty paper project. I have no idea where it will take me. But I think it could be kind of interesting. Useless. But interesting. My Mother would heartily approve. She is a keen fan of letting one follow the direction of some arty/crafty project. Art for art's sake and all that healthy stuff.
I think it might involve fairy tales.
Now I need to research and sketch things and dig through my closet of stuff and see what happens. (I suspect this will take months -like those paper doll ornaments I made at Christmas. I also have another long-term project in the works. That is still in the research/physics stage. Martha Stewart would be proud of this kind compulsion to craft.
