Smug eating.
Jun. 23rd, 2008 11:20 amYesterday I grilled some mackerel. It has a lot of appeal because it is a quarter of the price of salmon and it is an oily fish with a lot of flavor. I used this recipe by Rick Stein. (though I didn't do the new potatoes) I liked how simple and quick it is and the flavor of the fish is wonderful. I braised bok choy and broccoli (both bought from the neighborhood market) and added some pancetta to that. It was all cooked with a bit of rice vinegar, oyster sauce and a little chicken stock. It was just a touch over-done for my taste but it still tasted rather good. Then I did a caprese-like salad. Instead of using basil I used baby lettuces from my garden. (bibb/butter lettuce to be exact) The tomatoes were pretty good and we weren't even poisoned. The fresh mozzarella was locally made.
Dessert was sorbet and cake.
