bits and pieces.
Jun. 30th, 2008 09:30 pmMy Mother came to visit this weekend. It was a nice little visit. I made her relax and take it easy. We visited a few yarn shops, we tried some ice cream at Molly Moon's. (She loved the salted caramel because as she said, "sugar, salt and fat all in one place. What is not to like?") I tried their scout mint this time and I rather liked it. A little icy but very very good.
Plus she watched Senor Onion so that Mr. Jenner and I could go out without thinking about pacifiers or other small people related things.
It was a nice visit. My Mom and I talked about food, gardening, people we don't like, books, people we do like and family members who weren't present. And more food and books. There were no firm plans but things were done.
Senor Onion has expanded his vocabulary during the weekend. (I am posting this here so I can remember it later. Or something) He is getting better at saying Grandma. He discovered the words: shoe, car and chair. I think there might be a few others. When he says car, he sounds like he is from the east coast. Little kids aren't known for a familiarity with hard "Rs" I suppose.
I finished reading Strapless which was a nice little history/biography of the Madame X painting, its artist and subject. The subject was kind of a sad story and John Singer Sargent was definitely an enigma. Probably the closest a person could get to him was through some of his art. The book is a good starting point for a lot of subjects and further study. It also makes me miss the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. A place that lets you pretend you can be in Venice when you can't and it lets you pretend you can be in another time when you can't. You half expect to meet Henry James on your way to view Sargent's El Jaleo.
