I did some socializing yesterday.
Yesterday morning I met up with [livejournal.com profile] meowlet for fine beverages and pastries. She has a deep affection for Le Panier. It is in the market near Piroshki Piroshki. (just for reference)
Before I met up with her I was looking around in Sur La Table to kill some time and to fondle kitchen goods. I was standing near this couple who were looking at a crockpot and various accessories. One said to his partner, "Oh look at these disposable linings. That way you don't have to wash the pot afterward. I like that. I don't have to put it in the dishwasher." His partner said, "You mean me? The dishwasher." I could not help but crack up and snort. He said, "See! She knows what I am talking about. I am not alone here."
[livejournal.com profile] meowlet had a ham croissant (correct me if I am wrong) and I had a pain au chocolat. We both had mochas. (I think) They were very very good. It helps that they were properly stirred. (I am looking at you Mr. Barista man at the starbucks in my doctor's building. Take note. Stir. Beverage.)
We stopped and looked at the cats on display. They are from this cat sanctuary/shelter and the cats are sooooooooooooo happy and spoiled it is funny. The white cat that was sitting about had a huge smile on its face. An actual smile. The tabby had a glossy coat and was incredibly comfortable just sitting on the sidewalk taking in the view.
We ended up in another kitchen shop where we gazed upon the fiestaware. I need a butter dish I have decided. I was nearly tempted to purchase some fiestaware. But I didn't. Instead I bought a scary apple corer that looks positively medieval. I am a little afraid to use it. The gentleman who rang me up was quite a character. He had a voice like Tennessee Williams. He looked at my scarf and said, "well... Your scarf and handbag say Scorpio. What is your sign?" I told him and he said, "Really????" He did figure [livejournal.com profile] meowlet's sign and began to ask her various details about her time of birth. He even brought out a book to examine it. He didn't charge me tax. I half-expected him to wander off into some tale of his youth.
"I recall Summers near Yazoo when I would sit on the veranda drinking bourbon reading books of a particular nature that would definitely make the dreaded index. One Summer in particular I met a true kindred spirit. His name was Beau. Beau was a tall and well-muscled man from Valdosta. He was earning some money for school. (school would be pronounced Skooool) He apparently was a champion swimmer and you could tell by the glistening well defined shoulders he had. In some ways he was practically illiterate. I would read aloud Greek poetry to him. He understood me in ways no one would. Not even Mama. We truly got to know one another one night in the tool shed...."
You get the idea.
He was a kick. I am definitely going back just to talk to him.
There was also a field trip to Sephora for cute things and a wander through The Gap to make pointed comments about the clothes. "This could be pretty if it didn't look like Grandma had been drunk while crocheting the sweater..."
After we bid our adieus I went to meet my Mother at the ferry. I got caught in some of the Seahawk traffic. *grumble*
Then we grabbed my son and we went on a fieldtrip to a cucumber farm!!! My Mom has been here a few times and has told me how amazing it is. they have this terrific store. We had a great time. I bought a bunch of tiny pickling cukes to make cornichons, some more honeycrisp apples, carrots, some local blueberries and a few other things. My Mother bought a bunch of pickling cukes, strawberries...and also came home with some baby bunnies.
We don't judge.
The store was terrific because of all the local produce they had and all the canning supplies and resources they sold. It was just too amazing for words at times. From herbs and spices to odd-sized jars and lids. Plus you could buy GIANT buckets of large cukes. I may have to go back again. Especially as we get further into the apple season. I want to make this cider apple butter.
Then it was back home for tea, cake and playing with rabbits. Plus knitting and playing with the beloved perfect grandchild.
Then I made a nice little dinner and handed out dessert.
There is a lot of eating, knitting and snark when my Mother visits.

Things are a little thrown off as Mr. Jenner is working like a mad men to finish up stuff at work before we leave on our holiday on Saturday. So for now I order more seeds and make lists.
