Let's enjoy the moment.
Oct. 9th, 2008 10:27 pmI made some apple maple jam. It is pretty sweet but pretty good. Imagine smearing that all over some waffles or pancakes or the person of your choice.
I may make more.
I was at the Columbia City farmer's market yesterday and came away with a lot of apples. This market has a lot of little tiny Chinese Grandmas and Grandpas. And while some of them have canes and look as fragile as birds there are some stalls where they are practically stepping on each other to get the best vegetables and fruit for their shopping. There are some stalls that specialize in Asian greens and woah you couldn't get close to view the merchandise if your life depended on it. Senor Onion is very popular with some of the ancient Chinese Grandpas. He says hi to them and they pat him on the head and say hi back. Repeatedly.
"Hi"
"Hi"
"Hi"
"Hi"
A sweet sight I saw was an old woman who was barely five feet all helping her Mother along who was four foot nothing as they were doing their shopping. They both had canes. They thought Senor Onion was pretty cute too.
It is such a fun market to wander through just for the people watching. Somali muslim women veiled in vivid colors, Hispanic farmers and their families, kids from the school across the street getting gelato. It is a great cross-section of the city.
I harvested potimarron squash from my garden. When the new camera arrives I will probably cook/document something fun with that. Maybe ravioli?
I have to keep an eye on impending frosts. I have some leftover green tomatoes. I will probably let them hang in the garage to ripen. Maybe make something with the green tomatoes.
So things may be scary in the world right now. So much is unknown and sometimes you just gotta roll with it. And sometimes you should find some good distractions. I suggest Live from Daryl's House. OMG YES! Daryl Hall has a webcast. People hang out and play music! With Daryl Hall!! At his house!!!
