I went and ran mindless errands this morning. Then I came home and did a bit of gardening. I transplanted some golden beets, a thyme plant and some leek seedlings. I also began the prep for the potato bed. Plus there was a bit of general weeding and mulching. Slowly a plan is coming together. It has been a rather beautiful Spring day. A very true sort of day where people are out for walks, lounging about in their gardens and generally taking in that rare orb in the sky that most people call the Sun. Senor Onion helped me to water the plants and I found him an empty bed to dig around in. We then planted some nasturtium seeds in pots. This is his contribution to beautifying things. Ladybird Johnson would be proud. Plant a tree or a bush.. (said in a refined Texan accent)
We did our fair share of sitting around in the garden and listening to the birds. I took note of a rather attractive shirtless neighbor who lives up on the hill behind us. I think I ought to invite people over sometime for drinks and nibbles and general ogling of the neighbor. He has nice shoulders and wears glasses. I am sure that will appeal to a significant percentage of people I know. (ladies and gay men) Alas he isn't a bear. But we can't have everything can we.
As Mr. Jenner was off being mildly cultural and theatrical; Senor Onion and I baked brownies, did jig-saw puzzles eighty-million times and then roasted a chicken.
Dinner tonight: roasted chicken, bean salad and a potato salad recipe I am still playing with. I also opened up a jar of pickles from a batch I canned last Summer. They are pretty darn good if I say so myself. It was my very first solo attempt at pickling. I have helped my Mother plenty of times, but it is nice to know I can pickle without poisoning. I think next time I would add more garlic.
The evening is proving to be quite gorgeous. Windows are open, birds are making noise and the occasional lawn-mower can be heard. This is a pretty satisfying Sunday. A good day like this can put all the winter grey blahs to rest.
