baked goods for world peace and other ideas.

As of late I have been trying out different brownie recipes. At the moment most are from the Fannie Farmer Baking Book. (Anglo men may giggle and then say pants and giggle some more. You know who you are!) It is kind of a fun project. My kid loves brownies the way some people love a woman or a car. I like baking and Mr. Jenner doesn't mind a nice baked good with tea.
Today Senor Onion didn't really nap so by 4:30 he was a complete and utter wreck. Everything would set him off and he would roll around the floor having an extreme tantrum and nothing would make him happy. It was like life was ruined ruined ruined forever and ever the end. So I decided to bake brownies. He helped. He was very excited to help. He got to lick a spoon that had butter and sugar on it and he kept saying, "mmmmm butter and sugar." I think baking brownies calmed both of us down quite a bit. Baking usually does that. I am thinking this could be used as some sort of therapy. Maybe it could be used for diplomatic relations. Let's get warring factions in a kitchen together to make a cake. Then afterward everyone gets to eat the cake and it might relax everyone into a nice sort of sugary food coma.
I made spaghetti bolognese for dinner. (good way to use up some leftover ground meat) and now it is time to enjoy the calm of the evening. Senor Onion is going to bed. (I suspect he will pass out like Vera Charles.) There are brownies and my hips don't hurt too much.
I found a recipe for some maple syrup cookies that I think I must make. Pecans are also involved. But not tonight. My culinary responsibilities are done for the day.
As for today's brownies they are more cake-like and a bit lighter than some of the heavy fudge brownies I have been making. I think Mr. Jenner is more fond of these. They are definitely economical in terms of ingredients. I suspect my Mom would like them a lot.

The birds are singing back and forth to each other outside as the sun is setting. This is what I like about Spring in Seattle. The trees are various shades of pink/purple and sometimes creamy white. The birds are full of energy and everyone seems a little less down. Let's sit on the deck and get bitten by bugs!
