It was a good First of May. The weather was just so appealing, Mr. Jenner worked upstairs so it was more like a minor holiday.
I steamed an artichoke for dinner and made aioli. I also grilled a few sausages and made a potato salad that had a bit of chopped up pate in it. It seemed to work; especially when I added the dill. We had chocolate bread and butter pudding for dessert.

Today it is raining, but everything still looks attractive. We are right in that period of the year when there are so many different shades of green mixed with the pink and purple of cherry trees. Many of the cherry blossoms are incredibly heavy with flowers so they are weighed down and when the wind blows just right it looks like it is snowing pink!

I woke up this morning and found that pretty much all of my trousers don't really fit and the one or two pairs of maternity trousers I own are too big. This is what we call a bit of a problem. Off I went in search of something to wear so I don't have to wear this one pair of ugly trousers or yoga pants for the rest of my natural life. Okay those and a couple of skirts. (one of which I hate) Two reliable places for slightly cheap-ish clothes disappointed me. I am really curious why a pair of ugly trousers with a slight elastic panel at the top must cost twice as much as a regular pair of trousers that aren't as ugly? Do these elastic panels come from a rare sort of polyester that is then made by blind virgins? And it always seems the trouser material is extra heavy. Why is this? It was just one ugly-fest after another. And both places seem to shove the maternity section into some dark corner. "Woman you had sex and there are consequences. Feel the shame." I saw a number of day-glo yellow tops. Because really every pregnant woman wants to look like Tweety Bird on steroids. So after looking at some things and thinking, "wow. Navy blue. and bows. Is the Queen going to smash a bottle of champagne against me and say the SS Uterus is officially launched?" I went to another shop. As I am a masochist. I ended up finding a pair of trousers that didn't make me want to violently hurt anyone and I also found dress that I can wear to a friend's wedding. Attractive, comfortable and not navy blue. A++++ would buy again.
I also picked up some shampoo and bath stuff. Because dammit I deserve it. And I was out of shampoo.

Senor Onion isn't really napping today. So this afternoon he should be having a breakdown like Margot Kidder. Film at eleven.
But for now he is playing with play-dough and making "meals" of sausages and noodles. His specialty. He keeps offering it to us and saying, "careful it's hot."
He has filled a pudding mold of mine with jig-saw pieces and cards and lego and he takes the play-dough container and shakes it over everything and says, "add a bit of pepper." "Delicious". He explained that it was pasta.
Bobby Flay wishes he was this creative in the kitchen.

As I was driving home I listened to Dan Savage on This American Life. It was from their live show and the piece was about his Mother and her death. I remember when she died last year because he wrote a great piece about it in The Stranger and it was incredibly heart-breaking. I have been reading his column since the beginning. (I was still in junior high at the time and my mom brought me the paper. way to corrupt me mom) and his Mother would show up every so often over the years. She was one of those kick-ass Catholic Moms. Says a novena and doesn't take crap. (kind of like my Mom)
Anyways the piece he read was funny but also devastating. Savage's Mom has only been dead about a year and he kept breaking up himself while reading so there I was in the car, tearing up. And it was raining. And I am glad I was in the car because darn that is embarrassing. So yeah. Good bit.

Oof. I had a small lunch and I still feel like I ate a whole Thanksgiving dinner. Thanks Biscuit for taking up all of the room.
