let's make stuff!!!
Jul. 27th, 2009 09:24 amMy Mother has been telling me about this magazine she really likes called Hobby Farm Home Magazine. She tells me it is like her dream magazine come true. She finally brought me a copy and the damn thing is crazy addictive if you are interested in things like making your own cheese and so on. I suspect that for
kitchenwitch it would be like homesteading porn for her. (they even have a section of farms for sale that are gosh darn appealing) This nerdy magazine has a facebook page too. Just in case you need more fandom time or something. The recent issue had a whole thing about making apple cider and of course I am thinking, "YEAH I NEED A PRESS!!!!!" Talk about horrible enabling. I am thinking that we will definitely make another trip to the apple orchard this Fall. This is the place that had some apples that tasted of butterscotch! We had a terrific time when we went last year. (despite Senor Onion nearly eating a catterpillar) I came away with an obscene amount of apples for dirt cheap. I made a huge pie and canned a great deal of apple-related stuff. Plus their cider was delicious. But back to the magazine, I am thinking that I need to make having a couple of chickens a serious reality next year. I want my own damn eggs and stuff. Plus I think Senor Onion would enjoy the chickens.
This week the weather is going to be in the 90s. Brutal. There are plans being made to go to the library, the children's museum (they both have a/c!) and the shady parks and to eat a great deal of sorbet/ice cream. I made some peach sorbet last week, I made strawberry sorbet yesterday, (Mr. Jenner is a happy man) and I am right now steeping cream/milk/spices to make cardamom ice cream. Also large quantities of agua fresca are in the fridge. For now we are snacking on sugary sweet nectarines. Later on there will be cool baths. We will wait to turn our portable a/c unit until around noon.
I have a pre-natal appt today. I am almost tempted to stack my weight. *snorts*
