Yesterday was a good day for buying fruit. I found some local blackberries and had to buy them. I was going to be making sorbet and sometimes the best way to go about it is to just go and look at all of the fruit available and see what stands out as incredibly inviting. The blackberries just stood out. "hey baby, you like what you see?" I did.
I decided to combine the blackberries with some strawberries. A sorbet that stands for the essence of Summer. We went to Top Banana in Ballard. It is a seasonal fruit stand with some excellent choices in the Summer. Their organic selection isn't vast but what I do like is how many local offerings they have and how darn cheap it is. I had been to the grocery store and had been unimpressed by the nectarines. They were large, hard as rocks and had no scent. But at Top Banana they were a bit smaller, but slightly soft and had that scent that makes you go, "YES THIS IS SUMMER". (and they were from Yakima and dirt cheap) I ended up coming home with tomatoes, a bunch of corn, the nectarines and some Mexican coke. I think [livejournal.com profile] epiphany would like this place. Messican staples, fresh produce that is kind to the pocket book and nice young guys working the counter.

Senor Onion and I made the sorbet. (I will post the recipe on my food blog later with pictures) and since he has the task of licking the spatula and what not, he managed to get the puree everywhere. It was a deep sort of reddish purple color so it looked like a massacre had taken place.

For dinner I cooked up some corn, made lamb burgers and my own variation on Caprese salad. (slice up mozzarella and fresh tomato and combine with some pesto sauce. It goes over well) The corn is so darn sweet it makes a person giddy. I bought a ton of corn because I feel the need to can a bunch of corn relish this coming weekend. I have never made corn relish but I have been turned onto the pleasures of relish in general. Maybe I will make some jam too.

In non-food related talk, today I go in to see if they can move this baby. (if she already hasn't moved) I admit I spent much last week kind of in a state about all of it. But I did a lot of research and feel educated. I also know that if I get too wigged out I can always tell them, "we need to stop now." Okay so I am still a little concerned about the whole, "you are measuring a bit small" part. I am sure it is absolutely nothing. I have to tell myself that. I just have a long torso and my stomach muscles it seems are kind of tight (hard to tell since I haven't had a flat stomach since I was 12.) So babies don't stick out as much. As my Mother says, "you carry babies in shopping bags."

Yesterday the baby hadn't really moved much. It kind of freaked me out. I spent an hour trying to get some response out of her and that quiet dread was growing. Finally Mr. Jenner had to talk to her or something to get her to move a little. It helped when I said, "okay I am giving it ten more minutes and then I am calling the office." Then it was "boom boom let's move, let me do my impression of the Beyonce 'Single Ladies' video." She really moved when I put on some Tom Jones. FINE CHIL'E, give your mother a minor stroke. Is this the kid that will have me on xanax because of her worrying ways?

I am tired and have too many mosquito bites. But darnit we have sorbet and nectarines.

So, we went in today to triage to see if this baby needed some flipping. I lay there while they monitor the heartbeat (healthy and perky as always) and then they brought in the ultrasound and the warm goo. Within seconds of putting the wand on my stomach the tech said, "looks like she has flipped!" There was much cheering all around. The nurses were very excited for me and went to cancel the doctor. GO BABY BISCUIT!!! All those funky yoga poses and some acupuncture helped. (I think) Thanks for all the good wishes/vibes from everyone in internet-land as well.
They still had to do an ultrasound to check her size, the amniotic fluid and blood flow because of the concern about her measuring small. I will be getting a full report later but based on what the tech could see, she is a nice size, fairly active and there was plenty of amniotic fluid. My kid likes to make everyone worked up for nothing. Bless her. So... now it is just a matter of waiting for her to show up and so on. I am still due at the end of August but who knows when this kid will make her appearance.

I saw a couple come in -the lady was very obviously in labor and she looked young and scared. I kind of wanted to hop out of my bed and tell her, "Hey, it will be okay, you will do awesome!!!" Everyone needs to hear that now and then.

And as always the nurses at Swedish are so darn nice and soothing. One even brought me ice water.
