food, film and fun
Aug. 23rd, 2009 09:13 amLast night for dinner I made a couple of tarts. One had tomato and ham. The other could sort of be described as a caprese tart? I don't know. It had fresh mozzarella and then a layer of tomatoes and then I spooned pesto on top of all of that and then baked. It was mostly a means to use up a small tomato and some leftover puff pastry. I think it was Senor Onion's favorite.
The bread pudding was also pretty good. I threw in some dried apple which was chewy in some parts and crunchy in others (depending on where it was in the layers of things)
We watched Frost/Nixon last night which I thoroughly enjoyed. I know the story, but it was also enjoyable to observe good acting. Just people who know how to come in and throw it down.
The current issue of Gourmet magazine is awfully good and I may look through and see if there is something I can make today. I think we might have turkey burgers and homefries for dinner tonight. I should be able to get some tomatoes out of the garden to go with things.
A print I ordered awhile back finally arrived. I wonder if the artist felt bad about the delay as she sent me this other print for free and two greetings cards. They are fun. The two prints will look fun in Senor Onion's room. This is the print I ordered and this is the other one I ended up getting for free. I like the simplicity and silliness of both. They aren't too hip and seem rather appropriate for a kid. (plus it should be good for a few years in terms of decor.)
I should look at see if there are more blackberries ready to harvest. I can freeze them at the very least if I can't make anything today.
