sunday fun
Aug. 30th, 2009 12:53 pmI am beginning to read Truck: A Love Story by Michael Perry. I enjoyed Population:485 quite a bit and a couple of people said I should read this. They also pointed out that it isn't as heart-breaking.
He definitely got me with one line in the current book. It made me snort enough to nearly choke on my orange juice.
Seed catalogs are responsible for more unfulfilled fantasies than Enron and Penthouse combined.
He has moments that remind me of Noel Perrin's writings about rural Vermont. Eventually I will make it to the top of the queue at the library for his latest book.
In other pleasant news, my mosquito bites are dying down a bit. I had one on the back of my hand that was just enormous. (about an inch and a half in diameter. My body likes to over-do things)
particle_person pointed me toward this article on straight dope that discussed how mosquitoes might possibly prefer certain blood types. I am O+ and I am more delicious than a damn steak dinner. It does explain why Mr. Jenner and I will sleep in the same room and I will have 5 mosquito bites for his one.
When we were on our honeymoon in Italy, I was bitten to hell in Venice and Florence. I even had a number of them on my face. Thank goodness for the pharmacists who pointed us toward some anti-itch cream. I was so close to clawing my face off at the time. And really that is no way to begin married life.
I made these scandinavian pecan cookies yesterday. They are definitely something my Mother will go ga-ga over so I am freezing some for her. I still think the recipe needs to be fiddled with a bit, but I will try and post the recipe soon. I also have this urge to make ross cookies. Maybe oatmeal. Who knows what might grab me.
In "oh happy day" news, my kid is napping today. It means he and I will have a fairly pleasant afternoon with fewer breakdowns.
