Thursday I met up with another old friend. Annie and I have known each other since we were about three/four years old. We started out in ballet together. We were in the same class in third and fourth grade and were also in orchestra together in fifth and sixth grade. She and I spent many hours together in ballet rehearsal being dorks. There were also many hours spent riding bikes, playing Barbies (and dang were our barbies slutty) and getting lost in the woods. Her Dad is a vet so at her house there were always animals about. There are a few that stand out; Tasha the blind dog who still bumped into furniture that hadn't been moved in ten years, Goofy the 22Lb lump of cat and Countercat. (who funny enough lived on the counter) Annie's older sister and I became friends as well because she was also in ballet and she and I did plays together.

Anyhow, Annie got married last Summer (great wedding, good food and very Port Townsend) and for awhile she was still living down in California. Now she has moved to Seattle and we got together for coffee and snack waffles. Just like with my friend Kurt, our conversations come together in such an easy fashion. We talked about families, old friends, tasty food, babies and pets. It is so funny to look at her as an adult. She looks so much like her Mother (which isn't a bad thing) that it almost makes me laugh. Annie had a ton of fun holding Miss Biscuit and being entertained by Senor Onion. I had her try some cake and we shared the gossip about people we grew up with. There were two people we grew up with that later met after high school and college that got married. These two people were very popular, incredibly good looking and also really nice in high school. It cracked us up that they got together. But we both agreed -their kid must be really pretty.
We will have to get together again soon since we live in the same city again.

Today there was much wrangling of children. The sort of day where one is lucky to get five minutes to have a complete thought. At this point I am kind of worn out. I was needed a great deal. A lot of holding. A lot of managing. Trying to figure out how to re-direct Senor Onion's negative attention-seeking. It wasn't all bad. It really wasn't. It was just one of those days that has me feeling wound up in the evening. GO TO SLEEP CHILDREN GO TO SLEEP. At least there was cake and a hot bath.
