oh Monday why must you be like that
Jun. 7th, 2010 11:07 pmThe morning started out a bit dreary. It was pouring down rain, small people were ornery and so all I could really do is bake some bread. Later I took the kids out so that Senor Onion could play at a playground (where there are little scooting cars and blocks to play with as well) and to have a wander around a toy shop. He is very good in the shop as he knows I won't buy him anything. He carried out a few bouncing balls for awhile and then found this one airplane that is very fond of. I told him maybe he should ask for the plane for his birthday. Then it was to the grocery store.
The afternoon was rather pretty. Miss Biscuit slept and I did some weeding. We found a bunch of baby strawberries (Senor Onion's term for the tiny green berries) and saw that other plants have taken off.
I finished a book on Ice Cream that wasn't too bad. It seems like a book that started out as a magazine article and then somehow the author got a deal or pitched it as a book. It kind of goes all over the place. It isn't that I object to familiar essays (I am a keen fan) but it just seemed like there should have been slightly better editing. Other than that I liked it. There were a few recipes sprinkled in the book. Some that were rather old-fashioned and others that seem timeless. I will say that the author does seem like someone who would enjoy a good cone of ice cream without being dull and irritating and say something about, "oh I am going to pay for this later" or "I should have had the non-fat frozen yogurt."
Now I am reading a biography of Frida Kahlo. (among other books) I am getting back toward that habit of reading four or five books at once. Something to read for any mood. That is my approach.
