going out. FOR REAL
Aug. 3rd, 2010 10:30 pmMy sister is in town. I took her out for a bit today and then made everyone dinner. (My brother showed up for dinner since I made waffles and bacon) Then out of the kindness of my sister's heart, she watched over the kids (who were essentially asleep) so that Mr. Jenner and I could go out to dinner. Like real-live grown-ups. We thought about going one place up the hill that we like but then we thought what the heck. Let's go somewhere we haven't been before. We went to Bistro Turkuaz. I have passed it a million times and I have read good reviews and I like Turkish food.
It is a teeny place and it is so welcoming.
We started off with mucver (zucchini pancakes with a yogurt sauce and pita bread) and that went fast. It had body to it and a bit of spice. I think I could have eaten twice as much. Thankfully the main course came. We had the lamb kebabs and the Turkuaz special. I think I had ordered the kebabs but ended up with the special which is all right since Mr. Jenner and I planned to share things. Both were so good. The lamb was beautifully cooked. A nice smokiness and sweetness. The special had a lot of different textures going on. I think I could eat this once a week. I bet I could figure out how to make it. The tabouli with the kebabs was delightful. I ate a fair amount of tabouli growing up. (it is what happens when you hang out with a lot of Lesbians who do theater. All potlucks end up with at least one bowl of tabouli salad.) We devoured everything. We even had room for dessert. I had the rice pudding and Mr. Jenner had the baklava. Both were not large in servings which was perfect. They were light and sweet. An appropriate end to a terrific meal.
We may go back.
The conversation was good too. Mr. Jenner and I talked about traveling, life, history, books and so on.
