beautiful darling. Just effin beautiful.
Aug. 24th, 2010 09:17 pmI was very tired last night and I thought, "oh hey I will read my book for a few minutes." You see where this is going right? I ended up having to sit and finish reading the damn thing because I had to see how it ended. The book was One Day by David Nicholls. I had read a few reviews about the book and then a friend read it and said, "YOU MUST READ THIS." She has good taste so I bought a copy. It is about a guy and a girl who meet and spend a wonderful day together (They just finished university) and the rest of the book chronicles the anniversary of that day. What they are doing at that point in their lives. I really loved these characters. Sometimes I was frustrated by them -like you would be with a friend. I found myself rooting for them at moments and wanting to kick them when they were being foolish with their lives. It was funny, romantic intimate and heart-breaking. It is really about two people growing up and cherishing a friendship. I think what is grand is that there was a lingering question for me about what really brought them together as people through the years and while the story explains it, it really isn't until the end that it kind of all comes together.
As I would read the book and then go about the day I would find myself thinking about the two main characters and their motivations. I don't do that too often. I was cooking dinner one night and going, "why does he do that? Someone ought to slap him."
A good book for August.
I think I will read something light like some sort of travel essay or Wodehouse to round out some of the Summer reading.
My son asked for cinnamon rolls and so I made them. I made some that were plain and some with icing. The icing consisted of chevre, butter and maple syrup. It creamy and perfect with the rolls because the dough isn't too sweet. I also made brownies because life isn't worth living sometimes unless you have brownies.
