The day was fairly good. Things were accomplished, fun was had with the kids.
Then things sort of fell apart about a quarter to five. You know... just as I was thinking about sorting out dinner. I was putting some glasses in the cupboard and Miss Biscuit was watching our pet rabbit who was in his cage. I keep a close eye on her around animals like any sensible person. Then all of a sudden she yelped and I looked over. Blood. Everywhere. In the space of 10 seconds she poked her finger in and our rabbit bit her.
FAWK!
I try and get a look at things but oh the blood gushed. I quickly irrigated it and applied pressure and showed it to Mr. Jenner. We decided to give it a few minutes. Yeah that blood wasn't stopping. I called the doctor and said, "hey... antibiotics?" The doctor said, "well now that it is after hours you get to go to the ER.
Right now you are thinking, "AWESOME". So. I took her to the ER. The upside is that we got in and out in under an hour. Everyone was really great and fun. The doctor talked about how she was bitten by every dog in town growing up. (the fun of old-school free-range parenting.)
The downside is that Miss Biscuit needed a couple of stitches. They couldn't give her numbing cream before doing the stitches. They had to inject some numbing stuff directly into the wound. Yeah. Needles. I got to hold her while they did that and then while they stitched her up. I suppose it was fair considering the guilt I feel about her getting bitten by the pet rabbit.
Right now somewhere on the internet someone is going, "well christ what do you expect you lazy parent." Yeah well thanks.
Miss Biscuit was brave and good. She was also given antibiotics.
GUILT GUILT GUILT. That is what I have going for me.
So. Greg our bunny is going to live with My Mom. The thing is Greg was kind of a psycho rabbit when he was young and then over time he calmed down. He was really good around people and didn't bite people. He is old and grumpy I suppose. I have always been careful with him around the kids. Highly supervised and all that jazz. Damn.
Miss Biscuit was cheerful once we got home. Happy as a clam.
I am eating ice cream because I like to put food on top of my feelings.
I need a bath.
