my oven works hard for the money
Nov. 14th, 2010 11:06 pmI went to the grocery store by myself today. Now that I am a Mother, I truly understand why my Mother would sometimes say, "everyone stay here. I am going out." I like going to the store with my kids -they are a riot but there is a delightful pleasure in taking one's time, staring off into space, not having to follow certain rituals and so on. I could stand there and debate the merits of two products for a few minutes. What a first world pleasure that is, eh?
I came home to tend to the sickies (as I call the family right now) and made everyone calm. I then took to the kitchen and roasted and roasted. I roasted a delicata squash and mashed it -that will be food for one Miss Biscuit. I roasted yams for a cooking project -which turned out pretty well if I do say so myself. I roasted an eggplant and garlic to make babaganoush. I suspect I will eat that this week. Sure I might offer the kids some but considering their current state...they may not be enthused. Though who knows. They change their minds everyday about everything. Then I made a chicken pie for dinner. Somewhere in there I also did laundry and did some attempts at tidying. Plus the usual bit of entertainment of small people.
I have one more episode of Downton Abbey to watch. Gah. Mary don't mess things up you dumb git. Gosh darn that Matthew Crawley is easy on the eyes and OMG Maggie Smith is THE BEST. When I am an old lady I kind of want to be like her. Maybe not some of the conservative views but just the general bad-assery that comes with being a dowager. Nothing like a few episodes of that and a good chocolate bar.
Making many lists for Thanksgiving. I love a good list. Sure you can do the whole spreadsheet thing but there is great comfort in writing things down on a piece of paper. A nice piece of evidence of my existence.
Now off to bed. I have a cozy mystery to read.
