today in shitty low moments as a parent....
I got a call today from preschool. Senor Onion bit someone.
*sighs long and hard*
So I had to go and pick him up.
HEY WHO HAS THE WORST CHILD IN ALL OF CHRISTENDOM!!!!!!
I had to drag him out of there with him yelling and screaming that he didn't want to go. I had the whole world looking at me. I am sure they could hear him screaming outside.
I... I want to lay down and die thanks.
No hugs bullshit people because if I could I would shove you down a flight of stairs.

FUCK I hate parenting.

aaaaaaaaaand we breathe.
When we came home from school he went right to his room for a little while. Later on after I had calmed down we had some chats about what he had done. He told me how he was playing with a toy and then the other kid was playing with the toy and he wanted it back but the boy wouldn't give it back and he became really angry. I sympathized with being so angry you could bite (as Mr. Rogers once sang about) but I also made it very clear that how he responded was not acceptable in anyway. We also talked about how he could have dealt with the situation. Different ideas of what to say or do. I then had to make it clear there were consequences for what he had done. I took away his london bus toy (which he loves) away for the weekend and there was no television today. He would ask to watch a show and say, "I am being good." I would say, "yes but you bit someone, so you lost that privilege." Then this afternoon we made a card that said how sorry Senor Onion was for biting the child. I figure making amends is another good skill to learn. As a parent I take advice from the movie Road House when faced with these moments. be nice until it's time to not be nice. Thank you Dalton. Now if only Sam Elliot would show up to show me his scar.

I also talked to some food about my feelings. Thankfully Mr. Jenner came home today from his business trip. I was a wreck but I am better now. I had a good chat with my Mother. I also received an email from Senor Onion's teacher,

I just wanted to say that as a parent of a former (thankfully) biter, I've been there. Your picking up Senor Onion today had a really big impact on him and hopefully he will think twice before acting out in that way again. Senor Onion is a really sweet kid and I think he's making a lot of progress figuring out how to interact with other kids. He is so lucky to have you as a parent!

Which was reassuring.
