odds but not ends
Feb. 1st, 2011 04:23 pmI went to the grocery store today. That was fun. The kids always make it a laugh riot. On my way out I passed by this DVD rack that I always pass by. The only way to describe one side of this rack/display is "Wall of Mustache" films. It seems to be made up of cowboy movies that Tom Selleck and my Mother's imaginary boyfriend Sam Elliott have been in. Whenever I see it I think, "I should get some of those for my Mom." Even if the plots were awful she would just watch/listen to them while she did her knitting and say, "yeah but there are horsies and Sam Elliott so it has some redeeming values."
We have been organizing/clearing out the guest/store room. It is now going to be Miss Biscuit's room/occasional guest room. Why does she get shorted in the bedroom department? Well she ended up with a bedroom that is slightly larger than Senor Onion's. I found a bed that is just like her brother's. It is low to the ground and can grow with her. I think I may have found a convertible sofa/sleeper that is comfortable for when we have guests and yet won't take up much room when it isn't in use. I suspect dolls and stuffed animals will live there. I am having some fun putting together a room that will be multi-purpose. Something soothing, appealing to Miss Biscuit but not all one thing or another. The walls are kind of a vivid mint green that we did a few years ago so we will stick with that and build up from there. I am avoiding the whole theme room (nothing wrong with that but I find it a little limiting) that seems common with a lot of decor sites and going with the idea that many elements of the room should last a number of years. What might work for a baby's room may be useless or dated within a few years. I tend to favor things that are colorful, with a bit of a sense of humor and just plain fun. I figure the kid can provide most of that with their personality. I will have to try and do some before/after pictures once all of this is done.
The weather is treating the rest of the country without an ounce of kindness and here it is clear and sunny. It isn't sun-bathing weather but it is helping my mood. Last Friday after many many many many days of grey I was kind of at my breaking point and I found myself perusing flights to Hawaii or LA. I briefly thought about telling my family, "You clowns are on your own, I am running away to Tahiti." All part of my running away fantasy that has me running a juice-stand in the South Seas whilst I read back issues of the New Yorker in my spare time. Beautiful dream isn't it. Maybe we would also sell ice cream But mostly I would serve juice. A surly juice-stand owner reading Talk of the Town and chortling quietly at the cartoons.
Tonight: risotto!
