Hey look, I am in Paris. We are staying in this pensione which is quaint as heck with a semi-working elevator and it is certainly charming but I suspect I am getting to the age where I need less quaint and more... poshness. Or something. Maybe not posh but fewer stairs. The siren call of Best Western is faint but growing. I don't know.
Anyhow.
It is hot as anything and incredibly sunny. We met up with a friend to exchange keys (thanks for letting us stay at your house. It was a delight and a half) We spent a good portion of the day in the Luxembourg Gardens. The kids played in the ultimate playground. Though Miss Biscuit decided to climb into a mud puddle and was thoroughly wet. Fortunately our quaint as heck hotel is across the street from the gardens so I took her back to hose down. Then we went up with the guys and had some orangina and continued our walk through the gardens. We thought about taking the metro to get to the bird/animal market near Notre Dame but we realized that it would be ungodly hot on the metro and what with stairs and all that, it would still take awhile. So we walked. We even walked past the street of the apartment we stayed in many moons ago when Mr. Jenner and I became engaged. Mr. Jenner asked me if I had any regrets. I said, "nope. A+++ would marry again. Though there was a bobcat in the package."
We took the kids and looked at the assorted birds, bunnies, hamsters and fish for sale. Senor Onion thought the parakeets were especially cute but he found the Society Finches to be too loud for his liking.
Then we dragged those tired chilluns to Berthillon where Mr. Jenner said that everyone could have three scoops. Just because. He had chocolate, rhubarb and... I think strawberry. (he will have to comment) I had Caramel au beurre salé, apricot and cassis. Senor Onion who could have had up to THREE flavors decided he just wanted a couple scoops of strawberry. It made his day. Miss Biscuit shared with me and thought the cassis was the best of the lot. Fine by me. More caramel for me. Because that was delish. The apricot was as good as it was when I had it the last time (close to seven years ago I think.) Mr. Jenner said the rhubarb wasn't as good as he remembered. Maybe he just likes mine better. The chocolate was still amazing. Like silk. We sat by the Seine watching the boats and listening to a man play the piano. He was kind of doing boogie-woogie. There was an older plump lady who was so moved by the music that she started dancing. It was a good sort of afternoon. We forgot the camera but that was all right. We were enjoying ourselves. Not doing a ton. Probably not accomplishing everything on the wish list of stuff to do today but I like to think this was a good first taste of Paris. Afterward we slowly wandered across the little islands. Past Notre Dame and all the tourists. We found a crepery to eat at. Senor Onion surprised us by actually eating one. He had chevre and tomatoes. I had jamon cru with apples and cantal cheese. Mr. Jenner had one with ham, mushroom and cheese. Now I ordered this lemonade with mint syrup because it sounded kind of good in theory. I have had lime drinks with mint that were good. Mr. Jenner tasted it and said, "it tastes like toothpaste" It completely ruined the drink for me. I kept thinking, "crest. acquafresh" when I tasted it. Thanks Mr. Jenner. We continued our trek home. We stopped at some smoothie/fruit place -which also sold brownies. Senor Onion had a brownie, I had some rather refreshing smoothie (should have bought a larger one, it was that good), Mr. Jenner bought some sort of juice drink that was really good and we also got a fruit gelee. (framboise) We looked at assorted shop windows on our way home, strolled through the gardens again and came back to the overly quaint hotel thoroughly wiped out. I may have to take my mary janes and put them out of their misery after this trip. I will even play taps.

Tomorrow: We fly. To another country. Because we are crazy.
