Today the reptile man visited Senor Onion's preschool. I was present for the big presentation and it was rather entertaining. He explained all about different creatures and showed off an impressive variety. We got to see a cobra and a rattle snake (obviously they had their poison removed) and the kids were highly amused when a snake slithered her way into the man's shirt and then came out the shirt-sleeve. He even got the cobra to stand up and show off its hood. The kids got to hold a boa around their neck. Senor Onion was a little unsure about wearing the snake until he saw how much the other kids liked it. Though I will say that all the kids had a faintly nervous look about them when the boa would begin to move about. The Gaboon viper was pretty fantastic because it huffed and puffed like the big bad wolf.

As for assorted lizards we got to see the blue tongue skink and the gila monster. Though I think the real show stoppers had to be the alligator (still a baby) and the tortoise. The reptile man showed the kids how he could put the alligator to sleep. If you close their eyes, their heart-rate immediately drops and they fall asleep. Seriously this alligator (only a few feet long) was really cute. I suppose one doesn't think of them as being cute but I liked the look of it. It would also sort of pet people.
Now the tortoise was a spur thigh tortoise from Africa. It's shell is so hard and strong that it can hold up to 100Lbs. This meant that the kids could sit on the tortoise. World's slowest pony ride. It was a pretty chill animal. And yes there are pictures of Senor Onion having a ride on the tortoise. (need to get them soon)

Yes a good time was had by all.
