proper weekends
Jul. 24th, 2011 10:58 pmDespite much of the world being in turmoil, I say we had a nice weekend here at chez anglo-america. We took the kids to the museum and had a great deal of fun with the new lego exhibit. There was a great deal of energy expended. Miss Biscuit had fun with the duplo and pretending to be a fire-fighter. Senor Onion loved the lego and built a house in the construction area. We came home and ate sausages and popsicles. We played in the sun and just enjoyed this brief interlude of Summer. Today I took Senor Onion to the market and we found fruit and pickling cukes. He was excited about this as we had just run out of all the pickles I made last year. I managed to can a batch of cucumber sandwich pickles. (those are sweet and spicy) I think tomorrow I may make apricot jam. The kids ran around the garden, playing with the hose and did their best to expend more energy. We ate outdoors and had s'mores.
Miss Biscuit has a new phrase. "one, two, three, take-off" She will then launch herself into your lap and collapse into giggles. She will tell you, "I'm sticky" after she has eaten and needs her hands washed. Though it comes out as "I'm 'ticky." And she can say the word puppy. She has been waking in the night as of late. She isn't crying or anything. She is just up. Like she wants to hang out. It hit me suddenly today. When babies, toddlers are gaining new skills, their brains will wake them up and and go, "okay let's practice this skill." You will see this sort of regression if you have babies. It will drive you insane at times but it does pass. Miss Biscuit's language skills have exploded in the past week or so and every day she has a few new words to add to the list. Hopefully she will get back on track with her sleep once this brain explosion has calmed down a bit. (useful information to know. Amazing how the brains of small people work.) In the mean time it is certainly entertaining to see what she picks up everyday.
Senor Onion was such a hoot today when we went to the market. It is good when we can get this time together when it is just us. He held my hand the entire way and kept hopping over the cracks. Something ever kid does. He was chattering at me a mile a minute. "That's a tall building. Oh look a pug. I love pugs. I am going to have a pug puppy and I will name it Snuggles. Look those are berries. We are getting pickling cukes right? I see another dog. It's not a pug. Why is it so hot today? Do they have blackberries?" and so on. So many questions he has. Sooooooo many answers to hand out. I sometimes feel like I need a PhD in EVERYTHING to explain how everything in the entire universe works and why.
So I have started reading The Shuttle. So far the best character in the book is an eight year old girl who doesn't suffer fools and can definitely spot a sociopath a mile away; unlike the rest of her family. This is the kind of girl I hope Miss Biscuit will be one day. The baddie in this book is so awful that I feel like I should be shouting, "booo. hissssss" Apparently he was partly based on the author's second husband who was a deeply unpleasant individual and she hadn't been divorced all that long when she wrote the book. Maybe that was effective therapy.
