I finished reading Westwood last night. I had to finish it. It was truly a fantastic book for all kinds of reasons. The main character was far from perfect. She could be absolutely oblivious, snobbish and so in her own head. The book is more about her own particular growth as a person and how she begins to truly live. It doesn't have the most traditional of happy endings but there is so much that I enjoyed about the way it ended. The assorted characters in the book were so wonderfully written. Mr. Challis was hilariously pompous and arrogant that there were times that I nearly choked on my drink. It is a rare gem of a book. Damn Stella Gibbons could write.

Now I am going to start reading The Poisoner's Handbook as a friend of mine has been a keen fan of the book. Another friend picked up a copy for me when she was at the bookshop the other day so ta-da a new book to read.

As for the rest of this weekend, I have made a citrus sorbet (the ideal thing to eat when it is so warm out) and I think we may have lamb burgers for dinner. I have some vague ideas about dinner for tomorrow but I will need to stop at the farmers market and see what looks gorgeous and appealing. I suspect pasta con sardine will be the main course. It is just a matter of finding the right vegetables to go with everything. Maybe I will get more apples and make some sort of tart this week once the weather has cooled down a bit.
