It was a kind of reunion of sorts today. Sometime ago I got into contact again with one of my former bosses at B&N. I still talk to a good number of people I used to work with at B&N (though I think all of us have finally left that crazy place) and everyone remains interesting and funny just as they were then. Book shops hire fun people. Even the irritating ones are still interesting in their own way. Anyhow, my former boss (who was probably one of my favorite bosses ever because she was such a kind person and she was enthusiastic) invited me to a cookie exchange and there were a number of former B&N people there. Which was very cool. We ate our weight in cheese, talked about food, books, people and all that good stuff and then we picked out all kinds of cookies to take home. (The basic idea being of bringing a couple dozen of two different kinds of cookies and then take home a bajillion cookies to live off of for all eternity) I had forgotten about how so many people at B&N loved food and how many were great at cooking and baking. So I am now home with a bunch of baked goods.
Two of the women there, are still with guys they met at B&N. (a million years ago) In fact one of the couples just recently married. So there you go. Bookstores bring about all kinds of good things.
As for the rest of the day, it was pretty satisfying. I ordered the ducks for Christmas dinner. (I am going to have so much rendered duck fat, it is going to be unreal) We took the kids swimming, and they had fun as always. Miss Biscuit is quite the water baby and kept wanting to splash everyone. I bought marzipan for all of the Christmas cakes. (though that did involve driving out to Loyal Heights, and sometimes that might as well be Mongolia) Thank goodness for Larsen's for selling marzipan by the pound. (we also love them for their julekaka and stollen) Then after the cookie exchange, I came home and cooked up dinner for the ever grateful family.
The only dreary part of the day was when I was driving about 2:30 this afternoon and it felt like twilight. The sun is good and dead.
