Mr. Jenner has a birthday coming up. This means an email from my Mother inlaw regarding presents. First we begin with her not liking the options on his wishlist. We do this several times a year when it comes to birthdays and Christmas. It is a tradition. Her opening move is the above mentioned lack of enthusiasm about what someone wants. I then explain, "this is something the person would like. It may not excite all but they would like it." Then her move is to ask for a few other things to be added to said wish list. I go back to Mr. Jenner and ask for more ideas to be added to the list. Then my Mother inlaw will add her feelings about the added items. I explain once again that yes this is what they might like.
We do this a few rounds. Then something is ordered.
Every year I tell Mr. Jenner, "have things on your list. What would you like?" So I get the task of getting ideas out of him and then convincing his Mother he wants those items.
I think I should work for the State Department. I am good at talking two different people and appealing to personalities. I bet North Korea would be a breeze.
