fleeting and firm
Dec. 18th, 2012 05:09 pmSometimes part of being human is having some unknown or known person dump a load of pain and heart-ache into your lap. It hurts because at the core of things most of us have empathy so we can get an idea of greater pain and heart-ache being experienced in the world, and it upsets us because we sort of wish in that moment we didn't have this "gift". We wish we could drop it on the floor and walk away.
I made a conscious decision not to be terribly plugged into the events as of late. Some of it is for my own mental health. Obviously little bits here and there leak through. (I am quick to keep the news/radio/internet at a distance.) I like the Mr. Rogers quote about looking for the helpers in scary situations. Hearing of people who have and are helping is comforting. It keeps my love/hope for humanity solid. People can disappoint and horrify but there are always plenty of people who will step up to freely give their love and care. We all have that within us.
