the situation today
Jun. 12th, 2013 06:40 pmAll right, here is the update on the Senor Onion situation.
This morning I took him to school and went in to look for his missing jumper (sweet jesus... School jumpers are the DB Cooper of uniform pieces.) and I ended up talking to one of his teachers. I let her know that he had been harrassed the past couple of days, how it began, and so on. She was pretty concerned and called in the supervisor of the lunch room and had me tell her what was going on. They felt for Senor Onion because as the one said, "Oh and it is such an innocent thing. Poor kid." They said that they would watch things more closely today and maybe find Senor Onion another place to sit if he wanted. When I mentioned how muted Senor Onion had seemed since this had started that really got to his teacher, because she said that he has made great strides in his confidence and she didn't want anything to mess with that. (even the supervisor of the lunch room said that he now speaks in a loud clear voice and talks to just about anyone.) They were glad that I brought up the situation, and they were going to handle things.
Phew. I felt so much better. I hadn't slept much of the night because the anxiety ate up most of my brain (in particular the part that lets me go to sleep.) I told Mr. Jenner I wish I could have gone running in the middle of the night to take the edge off. I was so worn out today.
I cleaned the hell out of the house as a way to distract myself and because Mr. Jenner's Mom, Nan, and Granddad were coming over for tea. (Nanny D. and Granddad are down for a bit of a holiday. Mostly to give Nanny D. a bit of a respite since she is carer for her husband.) I made a cake, and some biscuits, and did a lot of laundry.
I picked up Senor Onion and he told me that the teachers spoke the boys in question, (telling them what they were doing and saying wasn't cool at all.) and then had them say sorry to Senor Onion. The teachers let Senor Onion move to a table with the some of his close friends from his class. He is now sitting next to a girl that he says is his best friend, AND with another boy who is his next best friend. It sounds like they moved in and took care of stuff. (and not just because the Ofsted inspection is going on right now.) He seemed a million times more cheerful and peppy. He said he was much happier and felt a lot better. I gave him a hug and said, "See, if you have a problem and someone is trying to hurt you, there are loads of people who care about you and will help you. Don't forget that. Whether it is me, a teacher, or a friend, there is always someone to talk to about this. Don't be afraid of asking for help."
I hope my brain will let me sleep tonight.
Then we had a load of Grandparenty sorts over for tea. Nanny D had not seen our house, so we gave her the grand tour. (she loves the kitchen and was impressed with its size.) Then I fed everyone loads of things for tea time. Grandpa thoroughly enjoyed the cake. He has a real sweet tooth but his taste buds have dulled with time, so he takes his tea VERY sweet. The slice of cake was gone like that. He can't really see all that well, and he is mostly deaf, but at least he can still appreciate cake. Had a good chat with Nanny D. I mentioned our upcoming holiday to Scotland and she told me about a time she went up there and stayed at a raspberry farm and how every morning there was a GIANT bowl of raspberries at breakfast. I want to go to there.
Then I had a chat with my Mother in law about going to Wimbledon together. Tickets have been sorted, train tickets are organized, and now to figure out clothes! This is going to be pretty cool.
Senor Onion managed to eat four brownies by being very quiet as he took one after another. It was a pretty lovely afternoon after the emotional fracas of the past day or so.
Tonight's grand plan: Watch Scandal, take a hot bath, read some epic book, and sleep.
