sadly sweet
Jun. 22nd, 2013 12:35 amThings were sorted. My sister in law VERY kindly took the kids. Apparently everyone is having a big ol' time. Massive sleep-over.
We were near Swindon when we got the call that Mr. Jenner's Granddad passed away. It was a peaceful death. He wasn't in pain, he was sedated, and just after six pm on a lovely long day with family present, he died.
A little sad but the feeling was that it was a good way to go.
So Mr. Jenner and I stopped at a services station that had an M&S, and we got some nice food for a picnic and went to Barbury Castle which wasn't too far away and had a million dollar view. A couple wanted their picture taken so we did that. We watched frolicking lambs, ate pretty good food, walked along the remains of an iron age hillfort, and enjoyed the sun and quiet.
Then we continued on with our drive. One that would never fucking end because OMG the road works. the ONLY upside to the road works was when we saw actual work being done. Something that involved welding? and sparks flying everywhere. Mr. Jenner commented, "SEE, now that is what I want to find when I have been stuck in traffic. I want to see effort." We felt like our tax dollars were being put to good use.
Somehow the fucking junction wasn't clear on the M25 so we got mildly lost and then we got back on track only to get lost again and THEN for some reason our credit card didn't work at the gas station because it is Kent and everything sucks in Kent. And be began to laugh about that awful village of the damned in Kent from the last wedding. Where we found ourselves eating at a bakery that had a wasp problem in the window. WHY did we eat there? Because we gave up hope. We used another card to get gas. We made it to the hotel. We are eating apple pie and enjoying the quiet. NO PUB BELOW.
We may be in Kent. Grandpa may have died, but we have pie and we had a picnic.
It goes on.
