Let's keep going until we hit Norway.
Aug. 5th, 2013 10:15 amSunday we were up. The skies were slightly grey but that didn't matter. We had breakfast where we ran in a mess of retired Americans. They were definitely from the South. The man who was with the group kept called the server "ma'am" though she was obviously young enough to be his granddaughter. Lots of "yes ma'am, no ma'am, thank you ma'am." (I don't oppose such civility but it is definitely a marker of a Southern up-bringing. Obviously his Mother made it clear how he ought to speak to folks.) I over-heard them speaking at one another and they couldn't quite figure out what porridge might be. I couldn't help but poke myself into the conversation and explained it was a kind of oatmeal. They appreciated my help. They didn't quite get my attempt at dry wit when I said, "I've lived here a year, and I've practically had to learn a new language." COME ON, that was mildly funny.
We had breakfast, we tidied up, packed up the last bits, and headed out. Somehow with loads of good byes and OMG now you are the nicest with the receptionist. (seriously I may email that hotel and say how freaking nice she was. Give that lady a raise or something for just being so gentle and sweet.)
( We saw all the roads and all the things )
